H2O Chlorination’s story began with Iowa inventor George Handeland, who developed the original chlorinator that became the foundation of the company. In 1979, George sold the business to Autotrol, and in 1984, operations moved to the company’s current location. Doug Hoffman joined the company in 1985 and purchased it in April 2011, establishing H2O Chlorination.
